My MOMtra (a.k.a. mantra for motherhood) is to be present. It's a big umbrella mantra/saying that everyone always talks about in a yoga class. So I broke it down into regular words for myself to make my goal more attainable.
Be present: phone away and just be there with the kids.
I'm not ashamed to say it, that sometimes my phone gets the better of my attention. It's my break from working 24/7 as a full-time stay-at-home mom with 3 kids under 4 years old. So my MOMtra is to just be there without distraction. Not to always worry about getting things done around the house, running errands or reading the newest text that just came through. It's easy to say what your mantra in life or motherhood will be. The difficult part is actually remembering to bring it into your everyday.
I put myself to the test. I make and sell MOMtra bracelets to help my mamas remind themselves of what their mantra is for motherhood. So last week I decided that I needed to test if this worked. I chose my MOMtra, recited it aloud and in my head multiple times while I just held and observed my stone, kind of like I was infusing my amazonite stone with my MOMtra. I then wore my bracelet 24/7 for the next few days. Everytime I glanced at my arm, washed my hands or just felt something on my wrist, the bracelet reminded me of my MOMtra. Even when I forget to wear it, and I saw the bracelet on my counter, I was reminded again. The day I forgot to wear it, my momtra was out the door. So for me this worked, but I'd love to hear your thoughts.
Now, don't get me wrong, I haven't invented anything new yere. Malas have been around forever and they are used in the same way. The difference however is that although I have a mala at home, I don't bring this mala with me everywhere I go. In case you didn't know, Malas are a string of 108 beads and look a little like a long necklace. This just wasn't practical for me to be bringing this everywhere I went.
So, I decided to bring this idea into a bracelet. A simple concept for anyone who was interested in trying this out. I started with intention bracelets for pregnancy. For my prenatal class I gifted each student a simple bracelet with a rose quartz stone. The stone was selected to represent unconditional love. A reminder for my students to bring in their birth affirmations or intentions into their day to day routines during pregnancy.
I then read an amazing article on yoga journal about meditating and continuing to practice yoga into motherhood. And this is what inspired me to make a MOMtra bracelets for my mamas. We need a reminder during motherhood when we are tired, cranky, peeing with an audience and getting kicked in the head because all the kids can't sleep in their own beds, we need a reminder of our MOMtra: mantra for motherhood.
I say this all the time to my students, life is tough. Doesn't matter what our situation, we all have our own challenges. So if we can just take a moment out of our day to remind ourselves, "you got this" "be present" "breathe" "I can do anything for 1 minute"... whatever your mantra might be, use something to remind yourself.
We've started selling these bracelets in our online store just because we want to share about intention and MOMtra's to all mamas. Check out our Rose Quartz and Amazonite bracelets that will help remind you of your intentions through pregnancy and motherhood.
